The Charlie Schulz Philosophy

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the 'Peanuts' comic strip.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4 Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series Winners.

How did you do?
The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers.
They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies..
Awards tarnish.
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special!!
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials..
The most money..or the most awards.
They simply are the ones who care the most

What a week!!!

Wow, a lot has happened in the last week.
I'll start with our meet against BYU. The girls had another great showing. Gabby won 1m and Aubrey was 3rd on 3m.
At Utah Gabby won 1m again and we went 2,3,4,6 on 3m.

These 2 meets were Friday and Saturday. It was a fast 2 days. We flew in on Friday and competed in Provo that night and the following morning we competed against Utah and then we flew home that evening. I think it's difficult to travel and compete 2 days in a row. Even though all the girls did well.

At this point in the season, I think the girls are diving consistently. We still have a long season ahead of us so this is a good marker for the girls. We have another meet against NMSU and Wyoming this Saturday. This will be another great meet. I would have to say Wyoming and BYU have the strongest teams in our conference so this should be a great turnout.

If you're in town please come out and support the UNM Divers and Swimmers.

None diving related, I have to mention something about our women's UNM Soccer team and student-athlete, Elizabeth Lambert. I personally know our soccer team and they are a bunch of great girls. When I initially saw the infamous ESPN clip on our UNM Soccer team I was shocked. However being the person I am, I had to look into this further. If you watch the clips closer you'll see the BYU girls giving cheap shots. The hair incident, well that was bad, however if you look closely, you'll see the BYU girl tugging and pulling at her crotch. I'm not saying Elizabeth's actions were right. I just want to say that in order for Elizabeth to do something like this, she had to have been seriously provoked. If you know soccer, you know there's pushing and shoving involved. What I would like to see, is the entire game at a wide angle view to see it all unfold.

UNM vs Northern Colorado

The girls had a great showing on Thursday. We competed against Northern Colorado. The girls went 1,2,3,4,7 on 3m and 1,2,3,6,7 on 1m. The girls are starting to look good and find their heads on the bottoms of their dives. This coming weekend we go against one of our toughest teams BYU. It'll definitely be a showdown. Stay tuned. We have a pretty cool interview with Sasha. The interview is on our website. Click on the link below, when at the website, click on the LOBO TV on the right side of the screen. Let me know what you think.

Good & Busy Times

The last couple of days have been busy. Last Thursday we had our baby boy, Rio. And on Saturday we had our 1st diving meet.

Rio was born Thursday at 8:22pm and he weighed 7 lbs 5 oz and is 20 3/4 inches long. He's doing well and so is Leanne. She is anxious to start running and becoming more active. We would like to thank all of you for your prayers and thoughts.

The UNM Diving team began with a bang. We competed against CSU, SDSU, and AFA. On 3m we went 1,3,4,5,13 and on 1m we went 2,3,4,5,13. Unfortunately the girls had to travel without me because I was in the hospital with Leanne and Rio. They had a great showing and I am extremely proud that they were able to go to this meet and do well without a coach.

I think all the girls are looking strong. We've been working on take offs and tops and now we need to start working on the bottoms of each dive. It's still early in the season so we have time for the girls to start figuring out the bottoms and putting rips on the end. Unfortunately, our sport weighs highly on entry so that's what we'll be working on. So you know where the girls are and what they're working on....

Sasha's list:

The New Season

Divers, Parents, Alumni & Fans,

Our season is approaching closer and as I look at our team I’m excited for competition. Our first meet is Oct 24 in Colorado Springs, against AFA, SDSU & CSU. It’s still early in the season and unfortunately the girls need to be getting there dives off and doing them well. If all the girls are on the same page we should be diving until March (NCAA Championships). I think the girls have a good chance of advancing to post season competition. Last year all the girls qualified to the NCAA Zone meet and we’ll be looking for the same results this year.

This year we have joining us, Stephanie DeLang from Atlanta Georgia. She’s a beautiful diver with pretty lines and we’re looking to add DD to her list. She’s great to have around and she brings light to our practices. She’s accumulated many nicknames and the latest one is, Jukebox. She sings 24-7.

We’re also waiting on one more addition to the team in January. Can’t mention her name until she’s here.

Coming back we have our Sophomores Aubrey and Gabby. These 2 are looking extremely good. They work hard and I know this season will pay off. These 2 girls will be feared in our conference with years to come. I also think they have a great chance of making it to the NCAA Championships. They’re both learning big dives even for being in the MWC (inside joke, I’ll explain later).

Finally, our 2 seniors that will lead this team to a great season are Sasha Evangulova and Alex Lusk. I think these 2 girls expect a lot from themselves and it’s been great to see them take charge. Sasha has the most experience in diving and knows this is her final year and she told me she is ready to work hard, dive her best and leave it all in the pool. She wants to walk away from diving with no regrets. I know she will. Alex came to us late in the game and she’s come a long way. She transferred from the University of Florida and has made a presents in our conference and our Zone. She did so well, I think she even shocked herself. I know she has more in the tank and I’m excited to see it all come out.

As you can see, we have the talent and we have the athletes. The girls are working hard and they’re dedicated this year to a good season. I ask from them, to try their best everyday and believe in themselves and everything will fall into place. If we can stick to that, WATCHOUT!!!!

Come out and support your Lady Lobos.

Let us know what you think.

Practice This Week

The Lady Lobos had a hard week of training. They'll be resting the following week and getting ready for Conference. Gabby learned a new dive. A dive she needed to add to her list of dives on 3m. She now has a complete list that will compete against any girl from any school at any conference.
